Greater Atlanta Defensive Pistol Association

Welcome to the Greater Atlanta Defensive Pistol Association, Inc. (“GADPA”) web site.

GADPA is an Atlanta based, not-for-profit shooting club that was incorporated in 2012, but whose roots can be traced back to the spring of 2005 when GADPA was originally formed as a single member, limited liability company (a/k/a Greater Atlanta Shooting Club, Inc.) to sponsor IDPA matches in the greater Atlanta area.   Since its formation the club has enjoyed tremendous growth and support from the local shooting community.  As a consequence of this growth, and to manage its operations more effectively, GADPA (not-for-profit) was formed in 2012 to acquire the assets and continue the operations of the club.  With the continuing support of its members, GADPA’s management believes the club is now positioned for even greater success in the coming years.

The primary mission of the club is to promote the goals of the International Defensive Pistol Association (“IDPA”) at the local level.  We are focused on individuals whose primary interest is in honing their safe gun handling and defensive shooting skills in a practical competition environment that requires the use of practical handguns and equipment more typically utilized with concealed carry.  Bill Wilson, president of IDPA says “The goal of Defensive Pistol is to create a level playing field for all competitors to test the skill and ability of the individual, not their equipment or gamesmanship.”  We believe that IDPA’s success over the years can be attributed to its continuing commitment to this philosophy; a philosophy shared by GADPA.

GADPA now hosts weekday matches in multiple indoor ranges in the Atlanta area, as well as a monthly outdoor match at the South River Gun Club located just outside of Conyers, Georgia.  Outdoor matches are typically held the fourth Sunday of every month.  Please visit our calendar to find the match nearest to you.

All matches are open to both new and experienced IDPA shooters; however, participation (beyond a discretionary, one time, trial match) requires that you become a member of GADPA.  Membership applications are available on this website, and can be mailed to the address noted thereon, or you can join while attending any one of our hosted matches.  We look forward to seeing you.
