GADPA Monthly Match
The GADPA Outdoor Match
GADPA holds an outdoor IDPA match once a month (4th Sunday) at the South River Gun Club in Conyers, GA. This match typically consists of a seven stage course of fire and includes a wide variety of moving targets and other interesting props. The total round count for our outdoor matches is approximately 100 rounds. (click here for a map to the range) Please check the GADPA Calendar for the most up-to-date schedule.
These matches are regarded as some of the best in the country because of the effort put into the setup and administration of the match.
We setup the match the day before which gives us time to insure compliance with the rules and add the extra details to the scenario that bring realism to the stage.
A shooter can pre-register and pay the match fee on-line, so when they arrive on match day their score sheets, with bar-code labels, are ready to go. As the match is in progress we are entering the scores. Most of the time, the scores are compiled shortly after the match is over and posted on-line within hours.
New Shooters
Safety Officers
GADPA has hosted the IDPA Georgia State Championshipfor the last 5 years and will do so again in 2010. This has given our crew of Safety Officers some of the best officiating experience available. This crew of SO’s has also participated in other sanctioned matches as both officials and participants. Most of these guys have been with GADPA since it was founded in 2005.
While the SO’s primary mission is to insure the safety of all participants, they also make sure everyone has a good time. Advice on rules, equipment and competition is easily obtained and freely shared.
Match Director
The Match Director for the outdoor matches at SRGC is Capel English.
Capel has been shooting IDPA since 2003. He currently hold a Master classification in CDP and is classified as Expert in SSP and ESR. He is the IDPA Area Coordinator for Georgia and Alabama and has been the MD for the IDPA Georgia State Championship for the last 6 years.
Stage Props and Equipment
GADPA has pioneered the use of moving targets in order to improve the realism of our scenarios. We use a wide variety of moving target systems. Most are computer controlled and pneumatically actuated. These moving targets are activated by timers, pressure pads and IR light sensors. The control boxes can drive up to 6 moving targets each. Because the activation is repeatable, the targets are presented to the shooters exactly the same way each time. This insures a level playing field for all participants.
Another benefit of these target systems is that they reset automatically. This means the match flows more smoothly since there is no complex reset that increases the time between shooters.
South River Gun Club
Our “home” range is the South River Gun club.
It has been at the present location for 41 years. SRGC is both a membership club for rifle & pistol and a public shooting facility for trap and skeet. Membership at SRGC provides you with access to all ranges and reduced rates on trap/skeet. There are over 600 members at this time and it continues to grow.
Members have 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 9 AM to Dark access to all the rifle/pistol ranges. The range is open 3 days a week for the clay target sports: Wednesday, 3P-9P; Saturday, 10A-6P; Sunday, 12-6P. The general public is welcome to shoot trap or skeet with us on these days. The rates for non-members for a round of trap/skeet is $6.75 per round. There is a full slate of tournaments for those interested in competitive shooting. SRGC has held the Great Southeast Regional “Shootout at Mule Camp” Cowboy Action Match for the last 5 years; the Georgia State Trapshoot for 10 years running; the Annual Glock Shoot, which is the biggest Glock sponsored shoot in the US for the last 16 years; the Georgia State IDPA Championship for the last 5 years; and the Area VI Regional IPSC Championship for the last 3 years.
