The GADPA Outdoor Match

GADPA holds an outdoor IDPA match once a month (4th Sunday) at the South River Gun Club in Conyers, GA. This match typically consists of a seven stage course of fire and includes a wide variety of moving targets and other interesting props. The total round count for our outdoor matches is approximately 100 rounds. (click here for a map to the range) Please check the GADPA Calendar for the most up-to-date schedule.

IDPA Match
Shooting from a vehicle

These matches are regarded as some of the best in the country because of the effort put into the setup and administration of the match.

We setup the match the day before which gives us time to insure compliance with the rules and add the extra details to the scenario that bring realism to the stage.

A shooter can pre-register and pay the match fee on-line, so when they arrive on match day their score sheets, with bar-code labels, are ready to go.  As the match is in progress we are entering the scores. Most of the time, the scores are compiled shortly after the match is over and posted on-line within hours.

New Shooters

We always welcome new shooters to our outdoor matches. Most of our new shooters get their first IDPA experience at one of the indoor matches we host, but this is not a requirement. If you are interested in IDPA we suggest you read our New Shooter Info page, pack your gear and head out to our next match.
New Shooter Briefing
New Shooter Briefing
Please arrive at least an hour before the start time so you can get registered and attend the new shooter briefing, prior to the match. We do not recommend that you go out and buy a lot of equipment prior to your first match. Come out and shoot the match with what you have. You will learn a lot about what is right for you by simply asking questions of the other shooters and Safety Officers. You will find everyone willing to share their knowledge and experience with you.

Safety Officers

GADPA has hosted the IDPA Georgia State Championshipfor the last 5 years and will do so again in 2010. This has given our crew of Safety Officers some of the best officiating experience available. This crew of SO’s has also participated in other sanctioned matches as both officials and participants. Most of these guys have been with GADPA since it was founded in 2005.

While the SO’s primary mission is to insure the safety of all participants, they also make sure everyone has a good time. Advice on rules, equipment and competition is easily obtained and freely shared.

Stage Props and Equipment

Pneumatically Actuated Moving Target
Pneumatically Actuated Moving Target

GADPA has pioneered the use of moving targets in order to improve the realism of our scenarios. We use a wide variety of moving target systems. Most are computer controlled and pneumatically actuated. These moving targets are activated by timers, pressure pads and IR light sensors. The control boxes can drive up to 6 moving targets each. Because the activation is repeatable, the targets are presented to the shooters exactly the same way each time. This insures a level playing field for all participants.

Another benefit of these target systems is that they reset automatically. This means the match flows more smoothly since there is no complex reset that increases the time between shooters.
